Bill Daniels rode Gamecock to victory over 15 other horses in 1887′s Grand National Handicap. The winners SP was 20/1.

Gamecock was out of Lightfoot by Revolver. He was a popular horse who had a game “come from behind” style. Before taking the Grand National he had won the Great Sandown Chase and the Grand International Chase (both at Sandown) and would also win the Aintree Champion Chase.

Gamecock placed third in the 1886 National but though he would race in four more Nationals he never again troubled the judges in the big race. He raced subsequently in the colours of several owners (horses changed hands frequently in those days), though always remained with trainer James Gordon.
