Miss Mowbray become the second mare to win the National, though history doesn’t record her age at the time of her victory, with ladies it’s sometimes polite not to ask! Her partner for the race was Mr Alec Goodman and the trainer was George Dockery, who made this his forth Grand National win in the 14 years of it taking place. The Owner was T Mason, about whom I haven’t been able to find out much.

This race is another of the pre-1860 runnings that history seems to have been snoozing on, well racing historians anyhow. I intend to re-visit this period at the back end of the year, and hopefully find out more. Especially about George Dockery who is the joint winning most trainer in the races history.
