Ffos Las is a track that I haven’t managed to get over to yet, most of my racing being confined to the South and the major jumps meetings in the North.
Always seem to do well on the Welsh track however, and the level oval seems a fair test and level playing field for the national hunt punter.
In the 7:15 Midnight Opera offers each way appeal at a nice 12/1.… Read More…

It has just been announced on RTE that the High Court has blocked JP McManus‘ attempted injunction to make Facebook take down accounts purporting to be him.
We actually haven’t checked them out, though I can assure everyone that it’s not us! We wouldn’t want to step into the shoes of Freddie Williams and take on JP, as he seems a man who doesn’t lose often!… Read More…

The 3:25 at Towcester is one of the most interesting races of the day, I like Downward Spiral at 11/4, there was very little between him and odds on favourite Ostlund on hurdle ratings, and though the jolly recorded a Group win on the flat Downward Spiral is a sound jumper that will stay every inch of the trip.… Read More…

Tonight the Champions League Final is expected to have more worldwide viewers than the Superbowl, but I will be tuned into Stratford’s card on ATR – well I will be flicking between channels anyhow!
I kept a watching brief on the afternoon’s Channel Four races, without getting involved financially, like to try to keep powder dry with the flat and stick to the jumps.… Read More…

Two jumps cards to get stuck into today, both are ridding on the firm side of good.
In the opening “nervous hurdle” at Uttoxeter the favourite Fashionable Gal is bounced back onto the track after less than a week off and can be taken on at even money.
I am betting Set In Her Ways at 3/1, Jason Maguire should be able to get a tune out of the mare in her first go over obstacles, previously she won a bumper at Aintree.… Read More…

Twitter is supposed to be about conversation, but let’s face it; unless you’re Stevo Fry a lot of it is celebs broadcasting their views.
On my personal twitter a/c I like to follow a lot of the sports people, some of them are interesting, though too many seem to be putting out retweeting requests from people who follow them.
Not interested that “Barry from Canvey Island is having a stag do down Time N’ Envy”!… Read More…

If you are of a certain age and live in the UK, you probably remember getting your milk delivered by a milk cart, and perhaps even buying meat from the butchers instead of Tesco’s. The face of the average high street certainly won’t have Blockbuster videos in a decade’s time, and perhaps only a few record stores.
One feature that may also sadly be missed is the resident betting shops.… Read More…

Some of you will know Ed Hawkins from his rather shrewd cricket column in the “Holy Ghost”, he also writes regular pieces for the Times and other publications.
We have crossed paths with Ed a few times, and he’s always an entertaining chap.
I’ve ordered his book and look forward to when the wizards at Amazon drop it onto my doormat.… Read More…
