For a 50/50 event bookmakers William Hill would traditionally be expected to offer odds of “5/6 each of two”. The odds compilers at William Hill would almost certainly have not predicted that the vote on whether Ralph Topping got a £1.2million bonus for staying in his job would be as close as it turned out.
The result? Ralph has got his bonus, but only just. Of proxy votes 49.9% were against the rise, and after a show of hands vote it was narrowly decided that the motion was passed.

There were some heated questions from the shareholders with Group Chairman Gareth Davis having to staunchly defend the remuneration.

As a punter it’s not all bad, one of the reasons that we all like to bet with William Hill is that they always pay out!

I have been involved in the betting industry since the late 90’s and have in that time worked for a on course bookmaker (at now much missed Catford Dogs), spent time at a leading spread betting company, and worked for Betfair in their two year start-up phase.

In 2007 I co-founded iGaming supplier Hyperion Gaming with long suffering business partner Alex Lafferty.

Being involved in the industry for so long has given me a good understanding of the wonderful world of online gambling, and I put effort into giving honest opinions, that remain my own!
