10th October 2011 – known by some as being World Mental Health Day, others as National Personal Safety Day (who knew?!) For our stakeholders in British Racing, this date will live long live in the memory as the day that the new whip rules came into place.
For those of you that have missed the pingpong disagreement between jockeys and the BHA, the rules were altered such that a rider may only strike a horse a maximum of seven times on the flat and eight over the jumps.… Read More…

Day 3 of the Australian means the start of the second round. I think that Isner, Serra and Young are all players to think about considering their prices.
First and foremost I think that John Isner’s price of 5/4 by Sportingbet to beat David Nalbandian holds some considerable value. Isner’s best results have always come on hard court and after a straight sets win in the first round; the American’s big game should ease him into the third round.… Read More…

Fill your boots with the 11/10
Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump both won their first round matches setting up an affair between the two in the quarter finals on Thursday. In other news, John Higgins, Shaun Murphy and Mark Williams also advanced to the quarter finals.
The ‘Rocket’ is the favourite at 4/5 by Bet 365 to beat the 22-year-old.… Read More…

It seems like over the past 1 or 2 years, every bookie with a few quid in the back burner has decided to roll out a TV advertising campaign – some with better results than others. I’m going to have a look at these adverts over the next couple of weeks, partly because I think it should be a bit of a giggle and mainly because I actually want to establish what makes a good advert for a betting company.… Read More…

Cotton Mill’s success in the Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle at Warwick on Saturday gave John Ferguson his first graded winner, writing yet another exciting chapter into the jumps trainer’s career.
In previous years, Ferguson was known for his monster dealings in the sale ring in his role as a bloodstock advisor to Sheikh Mohammed. However, this season he has blossomed into one of the most exciting National Hunt trainers.… Read More…
Bowie sung the praise of ch-ch-ch-changes! Presumably it must be a favourite song of cigar chomping bookmaking giant Mr Victor Chandler.
Ominously (for the superstitious) the firm of which he is Chairman chose Friday 13th to announce that the company would be rebranding their UK facing business to be called BetVictor. This move comes a few years after trying to brand as VCBet, a move that was eventually abandoned.… Read More…

On Friday 13th it was announced that Victor Chandler is now rebranded as BetVictor.
The company grew from a family bookmaker to a Gibraltar based iGaming giant. Victor Chandler propelled the company into the big time by being the first operator to recognise the tax advantages of being based from the British territory based at the Southern tip of Spain.… Read More…

The Count, counting down to PDC
So Ted Hankey strops out of the BDO’s semi and announces he is heading over to the PDC. BetVictor have him put in as a 100/1 poke.
Gone are the days when the PDC needed to pay bounties to big names, or even offer wildcards to the Premier League. The prize money difference between the two tours is now enough of an incentive.… Read More…

Sadler’s Risk has been cut to 8/1 from 16/1 for the JCB Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival after an impressive display in the William Hill – Home Of Betting Juvenile Hurdle at Kempton on Saturday.
The four-year-old was a smart performer on the flat for Mark Johnson, and transferred to Hobbs in the autumn with the Triumph always the long-term target.… Read More…
So back to Ally Pally, after only a few weeks having attended the “arrers” with the guys from my day job!
Really impressed with venue, they have used the same hall as the Ladbrokes Darts World Championship, but curtained it off so only the last 3rd is utilised. They have the usual crowd arrangements with the spectators arranged around three of the four snooker table sides, with press photographers and commentators stationed at the head of the table.… Read More…
