Betfair Launch Chrome Price Widget!

Betfair Widget on Stan James

Today Betfair launched a price widget that lets you view a bookmaker’s site and displays the Betfair prices on a pop up shown on the actual bookie’s site. After Betfair’s recent run of adverts that name specific competitors such as William Hill, Bet365 and Ladbrokes this is a another somewhat aggressive initiative.

Andre Villas-Boas sacked by Chelsea

Andre Villas Boas looks defeated on the touch-line

Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at the Hawthorns against West Brom proved to be the final straw for ruthless Russian owner Roman Abramovich as he sacked Andre Villas-Boas after just eight months in charge amid poor results and ongoing battles with senior players.

He becomes the 7th manager to feel the raft of the Russian since he took over in 2003. Dubbed by many as a ‘Mini-Mourinho’, after the current Real Madrid coach who has been one of the most successful managers in Europe in recent years.… Read More…

Double missed for having doubles (or treble?)

Campbell Gillies Jockey

Bad luck story for the weekend goes to Campbell Gillies, a conditional jockey for Lucinda Russell.

Gillies Stood Down for failing breath test

Campbell Gillies was stood down at Sedgefield yesterday after the sampling officer’s results showed that the jock had probably been enjoying himself a bit too much on the Saturday night. Unfortunately for the rider his blood stream levels were too high for the BHA, though would have been at a level low enough for him to pass a Police road side breatalizer test.… Read More…

Betfred sign up Northern Racing to Tote license.

Fred Done Betfred Owner

Really like Northern racing, both for the redevelopment of one of my favourite tracks in Fontwell, and also for calling themselves Northern Racing whilst owning Brighton!

Northern Racing have signed a deal that sees Betfred managing the tote pool betting at Brighton, Bath, Chepstow, Ffos Las, Fontwell Park, Great Yarmouth, Hereford, Sedgefield, Newcastle and Uttoxeter. They are the first major racing group to sign up with Betfred since the Warrington and Gibraltar based firm purchased the Tote from the Government.… Read More…

National Lottery Marketing Realignment a response to Health Lottery?

Over the weekend I saw the new and very moving advert for the National Lottery. I have embedded it below to watch, its focus is on the vivid recollection of a WWII veteran who is visiting the graves of his fallen comrades. Watching it made me think of the sacrifice that my Grandfather’s generation suffered.

Different Marketing Message by National Lottery

Watching the advert from a cold blooded marketing perspective I was interested by the new focus on the helpful causes with the tagline focusing on “The National Lottery supports over 370,000 good causes”.… Read More…

Bored with Stan James Board Prices Offer?

Stan James Racing Sponsorship Cheltenham

Been a big fan of Stan James for many years, partly because I used to punt with them on the telephone when they were the trailblazing firm that rolled out in-play betting. They were the front runner in the race that has now seen Sportingbet and Bet365 currently take up the pace. Back in the day they were also the firm that first went 24/7 for their call centre.… Read More…

Day of Punting best forgotten

Today saw a rather lacklustre afternoon’s punting. The highlight was Aerial getting up to scoop the Greatwood Gold Cup feature handicap. The surprise wasn’t that the favourite landed the odds, but that Pricewise’s two dutched tips didn’t come in one-two. Tom Segal has been in imperious form recently, perhaps he choose to give the bookies a break this week?… Read More…

GOBATA Protest

Greyhound Racing Strike

All out! Pretty much all the major player Open race trainers had resolved to boycott the Betfair sponsored Trainers Championship in a GOBATA protest about the continual low prize money offered for Open Races. With the increased cost of diesel it is becoming more and more difficult for the top open racing trainers to make it pay.

Greyhound Strike

The boycott was announced at a GOBATA meeting at Towcester (site of future dog track) and was backed by the most famous trainers, including Mark Wallis, current Derby Champ Charlie Lister OBE, Nick Savva and Seamus Cahill.… Read More…

Commiserations to Harry Redknapp

Harry Redknapp and AP McCoy

Life’s Up and Downs

Sincere commiserations to Harry Redknapp who travelled to Taunton to watch his Alan King trained Bygones in Brid fall at the first hurdle and suffer an instant fatal injury. The horse had cost £100,000 and was viewed as a good prospect with expectations of giving Redknapp plenty of fun, potentially having the scope to progress to contest some of the better “Saturday races”.… Read More…

Stupid Poll on Gold Cup and Kauto Star

Betfair Kauto Star Poll

Kauto Star 50/50

Like pretty much everyone else I am gutted that Kauto Star is rated by Paul Nichols as only 50/50 after a suffering a crashing fall in training last Friday. The news broke yesterday after having been hushed up by Ditcheat for six days. Pretty much the only people who aren’t similarly crestfallen are holding Ante Post betting slips for Long Run and others.… Read More…
