Cheltenham Festival 2012 Day 1: My Betting Diary

The winners enclosure after the Arkle Cheltenham 2012

OK, so the first thing is never to underestimate the time taken to get from London to Cheltenham on the first day of the festival. As I ran out of the toilet near the entrance I heard the roar for the start of the 2012 Supreme Novices Hurdle and dashed to get a view of the action from the grandstand.

The 2012 Supreme Novices Hurdle

My first bet was purely for an interest, a small each way snaffle on the Willie Mullins trained Midnight Game, who was duely outpaced from 3 out at a price of 16/1.… Read More…

Back the Lakers before the Dwight Howard Trade happens

Dwight Howard

It was only six weeks ago that football fanatics across the land were working themselves up into a frenzy of excitement over transfer deadline day, eagerly awaiting the multi-million pound blockbuster deals that have characterised this dramatic, televised extravaganza in years gone by. However, we were all thoroughly underwhelmed when the biggest deal to go through on January 31st was Andrei Arshavin’s loan from Arsenal back to Zenit St Petersburg in his native Russia.… Read More…

Cheltenham Champion Day off to a roaring start

Crowds at the Cheltenham Festival

ROARRR!!

That’s right, Cheltenham Festival 2012 is off to a flying start as the crowds enthusiastically scream at an alarming decibel level at the start of today’s first race the William Hill Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. Just how loud is it this year? You’ll need to ask Chris and Alex who’ll be watching today’s races from the front line.

If, like me, you’re in the unlucky majority who haven’t been able to make it down to Gloucestershire today you can watch it online on Bet365 (just click on the live streaming option in the top right hand corner).… Read More…

Punter filling in his betting slip

Liverpool v Everton

The Merseyside derby takes place at Anfield tonight. Both sides come into this game with contrasting form. Liverpool have lost their last three games, whilst their fierce rivals are currently on a seven game unbeaten run. One things for certain, both sides will not want to lose this game. As it stands, Liverpool have the bragging rights, having already won the Carling cup, sitting two places above Everton, and having won the return fixture earlier this season 0-2.… Read More…

YouTube American Sports Tour

Former San Diego Padre Connor Powers

So, I spent five years in the USA on a tennis scholarship. The one thing I certainly noticed was that the main American sports seemed to be more about your physical ability than talent the majority of the time. By main sports I mean Baseball, Basketball and American Football.

I was on Youtube the other week and talking with some friends from ‘across the pond’ and they recommended I check some videos.… Read More…

Back Brook to Stop Hatton Late on

Kell Brook

Saturday’s War of the Roses is the latest incarnation of one of Boxing’s most well worn narratives- the rising star versus the wily old veteran.

Impressive Records

The former, Kell Brook, has the kind of offensive boxing skills that have the purists drooling. Fast, powerful and slick, Brook has won all of his 26 fights to date with 18 knockouts included.… Read More…

Professor Frink’s Cheltenham Day 1 Stat Attacks!

Professor Frink Attempts Tic Tac

Professor Frink hasn’t really borrowed a super computer from one of the Kings of Europe and triangulated the statistical vectors in order to predict the results of the races on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival to a 99.87 certainty rate.

Don’t be too let down, the number crunching was done by Sportsbook Guardian’s Andrew Norman and Alex Lafferty.… Read More…

Sunday Masters’ Accumulator

24th seed Marin Cilic is the underdog in a match up against Nalbandian on Sunday.

Sunday, March 12th is a great time to jump down the bookies and have a little flutter on tennis. Why tennis during March? Well you have to remember that the Indian Wells Masters right now will start at 7PM GMT and this allows us enough time to stop thinking about football and settle in for a nice night of more tennis magic.… Read More…

Premier League – Fight for survival

Wolves fans invade pitch after they avoided relegation last season

With just 11 games of this Premier League season to play, it’s a time for heroes to be made, its the most eagerly anticipated time of the year; or as Sir Alex Ferguson once eloquently put it: “Its squeaky bum time.”
