Everyone has a favourite team, horse or greyhound that they enjoy betting on. Steven Collings had a great attachment with the superstar race horse Kauto Star. Steve first followed Kauto Star back in 2005 when he won the Tingle Creek Chase, backed him in every outing during 2006/2007 including the Betfair Chase and King George VI then Gold Cup. He backed Kauto in every race since then including 4 x £1,000 wins. Other winning bets included £500 pound singles. All bets were for the Murton Jockey Club which consisted of Steve Collings, Chris Fish and Stu Armstrong. Their last bet was on the 2012 Gold Cup.
Collings told his wife that once Kauto Star star retired he was going to have a tattoo commemorating the race horse over his heart because that is where it would always be. After the Gold Cup in 2012 Kauto pulled up one lap before the end and Clive Smith, the horse’s owner, suggested that may have been the end for his prized asset. With Kauto Star’s future very much in doubt Steve thought it was time to get the tattoo of his beloved horse. Steven sought the services of Shawnee Quinn to tattoo him, it was was his first and it took Shawnee just over 2 and ½ hours to complete. Steven can now be seen at race meets across the country, he is the guy losing his shirt (literally) but this time it is to proudly show off his tattoo.
This isn’t the first time that Kauto Star has been tattoed on someone, in January Emily Russell had Kauto Star tattooed on her ankle. She too was a massive fan of the two-time Gold Cup winner and was playfully dubbed as “The Girl with the Kauto Star Tattoo”.
