Responsible Gambling, or er Irresponsible Gambling

Just a quick update on the website development, the team have been working hard to change some things on the back end and soon the front page will be a lot more content rich and featuring more blog and news accounts. In a change this week we edited the font to make it easier to read on webpages. The site still looks very nice on the slimmed down mobile version – have you tried it yet?

Anyhow, been thinking about gambling, specifically responsible gambling. Most of our site adverts (and let’s not beat around the bush – revenue) come from bookmakers. I’m a punter myself, and I believe in personal choice, but I have scheduled to have some static content put up linking to sites that can offer advice about controlling or stopping gambling for individuals who think they need some help. In the interim there are some links below.

At the end of the day it’s easy to chase, and with access to credit and debit cards gambling can be very dangerous if not treated with respect. One Trading Director I know say’s “this game can tame lions”!

The old tale about chasing is that you lose a flea so you send in a fly, you lose a fly so you chase with a spider, you lose the spider and send in a mouse, lose a mouse and chase with a cat, drop the cat and bet the dog, lose the dog send in an elephant. If the elephant doesn’t come back you’re in trouble.

It’s an easy path to walk down, been on a bit of a roll recently, mainly betting horses on Bet365 (Sp Guarantee), and the account is nicely in the black over the last fortnight. However after giving a small percentage of it back in losing bets on the Masters snooker I did feel the urge to go on “tilt” and chase. Thankfully resisted it, and have resolved to not bet on snooker. Even though I love going (went to a few sessions of Masters this year) I never seem to win on the bloody sport. Determined to stick to what I do well in, namely jumps racing and darts betting.

I have been involved in the betting industry since the late 90’s and have in that time worked for a on course bookmaker (at now much missed Catford Dogs), spent time at a leading spread betting company, and worked for Betfair in their two year start-up phase.

In 2007 I co-founded iGaming supplier Hyperion Gaming with long suffering business partner Alex Lafferty.

Being involved in the industry for so long has given me a good understanding of the wonderful world of online gambling, and I put effort into giving honest opinions, that remain my own!
