Trains Delay – Dark and Dangerous
On Monday a couple of weeks ago (19th Dec) attended Plumpton with the guys from the office, and nine of us looked forward to a meal and a day out at what I had billed to the team as a “proper National Hunt Track”.
First off credit to the ground staff who managed to keep the track raceable, having had it reported as -3 on the tracks ground report website page.… Read More…

A very Happy New Year to you all! My usual plan of attack on New Year’s eve is to go to Edinburgh for a few sociables before making my way to Musselburgh Racecourse the following day. This year was slightly different in that I raised a glass in Cheltenham to welcome in 2012.
I can safely say it was the quickest 7 hour journey down from Scotland in memory.… Read More…

Big Bucks got his season off to the best possible start at Newbury at the end of November with a bloodless victory in the Grade 2 Sportingbet Long Distance Hurdle, 5 lengths ahead of stablemate Five Dream.
In doing so, the 8 year old equalled the mighty Bula’s winning sequence of thirteen back to back victories over hurdles, and is now only three off the all time record of sixteen – still held by Sir Ken.… Read More…

Sizing Europe produced an awesome display of jumping to win the Sportingbet Tingle Creek chase at Sandown Park at the weekend.
Henry de Bromhead’s stable star tracked Wishful Thinking – who hared off as if it was contesting a five furlong dash, before Richard Johnstons mount was reeled back by the remainder of the field and weakened rapidly before the third last fence.… Read More…

Just typing this blog up on a rather caffeine fuelled Birthday, my old darts captain (Merv the swerve – see pictures, he has the ‘tache!) would describe my age as “thirty-two, the noo”! Been smacking into far too many diet cokes, and Dr Pepper’s over the last few days as attended a company bowling outing (won by business partner Alex!) and then a mob of us went to the 2nd evening of the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace.… Read More…

The jumps season has reached halfway already, where does time go?! Another cracking weekend of action, headlined by the by International meeting at Cheltenham, which was complete with the obligatory wrong path chaos in the Cross-Country race!
The market has hinted that this years Champion Hurdler Hurricane Fly is evidently going well at home and Ladbrokes cut Willie Mullins’ charge to 6/4 from 2/1 before the weekend.… Read More…

After a smart performance in taking Kelso’s Monteith Memorial Champion Chase (2m6f) Betfred have cut Always Right’s National price from 33/1 to 25/1.
John Wade’s likeable nine year old has a good attitude and in the race prior to Sunday’s victory he had placed a close third in the Scottish National despite on that occasion being 3lb wrong in the handicap.… Read More…

Returning to a rather dark and bleak UK after enjoying a relaxing fortnight in Cape Verde. The picture shows my feet and typical daytime view!
Sadly during the vacation I missed some top quality racing, in particular gutted to miss Kauto Star’s return to prominence. Very cheering, especially as connections were considering retiring the great horse if it put in a seriously lacklustre performance.… Read More…

Kelso stages a seven strong card kicking off at 1230, with the fixture highlight being the 4 mile John Smith’s Borders National. Twelve go to post for the marathon event with several interesting contenders.
Nigel Twiston Davies’ runners on Scottish turf always warrant respect and the Gloucestershire handler’s sole representative is Ballyfitz. The 11 year old is a relentless galloper who will relish underfoot conditions and runs here on the back of an excellent reappearance when second over 3 1/2 miles at Cheltenham.… Read More…

Kauto Star rolled back the years on Saturday to emphatically win the Betfair Chase at Haydock in what was called, “his best ever performance.” It was his fourth time winning the event.
For those who backed the 11-year-old, the price of 6/1 in retrospect was a bet oozing with value, though naturally there were some doubters who believed the dual Gold Cup winner would struggle against his younger counterparts .… Read More…
