In the past week betting giant Bwin have signed a contract to be an official sponsor of the Manchester United football team for the 2012/2013 English Premier League.
Over the past three years Bwin have been the official online gaming and betting partner of Real Madrid.
Bwin has an important opportunity to gain good coverage into the English market as it did in the Spanish one from it’s high profile association with the Madrid Galacticos. The English club and the betting company agreed to replace the name of the last sponsor Betfair in their red equipment. Manchester United have also in the past been associated with Betfred with Fred Done’s firm providing the onsite betting outlets.
It is a good opportunity for Bwin to advertise their products, as its co CEO Norbert Teufelberger announced:
“As the official online gaming and betting partner, bwin.com has numerous online sponsoring rights, which fit perfectly with bwin.com products. Manchester United is famous for its international fan community. The club has more than 25 million friends on Facebook and over 200 official fan communities in 24 countries.”
Manchester United has an important and lucrative portfolio of sponsors including AON (£20m a year for a shirt deal), Nike (£23.5m a year for a kit supply deal) and DHL (£10.5m a year to sponsor a training kit).
A message from Old Trafford summarised the deal:
“Two giants in the world of sports coming together to start an enthralling partnership. From now on, bwin is Official Online Gaming and Betting Partner of English record-holders Manchester United!”
